The number of labor cases has risen to about 60,000 yearly, a ministry official said, calling for setting up appeals courts in Jeddah and Dammam to reduce mounting pressure on the Riyadh appeals court, the only one in the Kingdom for labor cases. The number has become so big that a study should be conducted to get to the root of the problem, said Mohammad Dowaish, director of the legal affairs at the Ministry of Labor. Most of the cases are filed by workers, he said, and they relate to illegal termination of service and breach of contract. He said the Labor ministry has established 19 labor commissions across the country for preliminary screening of cases in an attempt to ease the congestion in courts. – Okaz __
