The 18-year-old, 10th-seeded Sindhu won 21-18, 23-21 in 55 minutes to set up a meeting with seventh-seeded Chinese player Wang Shixian. In another upset, unseeded Carolina Marin of Spain defeated fifth-seeded Sung Ji Hyun of South Korea, 13-21, 21-13, 22-20.
