"Let the light of true belief lead our way" by Samar Fatany (July 20) is a timely and well-written article. It is truly unfortunate that people cannot see the true virtues of Islam. If people would sincerely adhere to Islamic teachings, we all would be in a much better situation. But, as is mentioned in the Holy Qur'an: "It is not the eyes alone that do not see, oblivious are the hearts within their breasts." Let us hope that Ramadan will wake up those oblivious hearts. T. Tawfiq, Online response II. Fasting is a time for self-discipline and good conduct. Ramadan is the time for understanding the true spirit of Islam by reading the Qur'an and reflecting and acting on it. It is a time for correcting oneself and setting an example and not for dwelling on the mistakes of others. If an individual changes his family, the community and Ummah will change. It is also very important to guard one's tongue in the holy month. May Allah accept our fast and bring about change for the better. Ismaeel Marikar, Online response
