Joud Al-Amri Saudi Gazette JEDDAH — The second episode of the the TV show “Wi-Fi” has resulted in a dispute between scholars and actors. In the episode, actor Khalid Sami featured Mohammad Al-Eraifi, a religious personality, in a sarcastic manner — behaving with dignity onscreen and differently offscreen. Many of Al-Eraifi followers expressed their anger on social networking websites, saying that the Sami had ridiculed Al-Eraifi. Sheikh Salman Al-Owdah said that it is a mockery being followed by millions. Al-Eraifi had previously asked parents to delete the satellite channel from their receivers as it does not air anything good. Sara, a follower of Al-Eraifi, said that the episode meant to imitate Al-Eraifi. She believes that the show is ridiculous and is unacceptable religiously. Ahmad Uthman, said that there are many negative sides to satellite channels. He said that a show that is based on sarcasm and mockery is not acceptable. On the other hand, Rimas Atallah said that the subject has been overblown. She believes that all shows that are based on sarcasm exaggerate personalities' behavior, and this is a normal routine for such shows. She added that “Wi-Fi” has presented other personalities, but no one objected or felt offended. Attaallah also said that when other public figures were being mocked on the show, no one came forward to condemn it, but when a religious personality was picked, “all hell broke loose.” Sami denied that the personality he presented was that of Al-Eraifi; he just presented scholars in general. He also said that he respects Islam and would never make fun of it. He only mocked those scholars who issue a decision and 24 hours later take it back. Sami added that actors are a mirror for mistakes, and they do not have anything against Al-Eraifi.
