With reference to the front page story “I want to go home for Ramadan” by Maryam Al-Sughayyar (July 14), it is extremely painful and sad to learn that the 13-year-old Saudi girl was given HIV-tainted blood at the Jazan General Hospital in February and is now undergoing treatment. This tragedy could have been avoided had the hospital followed proper procedures specially in cases of blood transfusion. The case of Reham Al-Hakamiand makes one think how many other patients got HIV tainted blood? And how many other hospitals are making such medical mistakes. Who is responsible for Reham and others facing similar situation? Licenses of hospitals which make such errors should be revoked indefinitely and hefty fines as well as jail terms should be handed out to their owners. Truthseeker, Online response
