DUBAI – This Ramadan, Ajmal, the region's multi-award winning fragrance house, has pledged to provide one million school meals to hungry children through the UN World Food Program (WFP), as part of Ajmal's “Mission Million” in support of WFP, the world's largest humanitarian agency fighting hunger. It costs WFP only one Emirati dirham to feed a hungry school child for a day. During the holy month of Ramadan, with every purchase a customer makes, Ajmal will donate a meal to WFP's school meals program up to a total of AED1 million (more than $272,000). Daily school meals encourage parents to send their children to school regularly and helps students concentrate better in class. “The holy month of Ramadan is the time for introspection, a time of giving and helping those in need and we thought why not donate a percentage of our earnings to fight hunger that inflicts so much strife around the world,” said Abdulla Ajmal, General Manager, Sales & Marketing at Ajmal Perfumes. “We hope that with this program, Ajmal will play a pivotal role, by supporting the world's largest humanitarian agency, WFP, in fighting child hunger. We aim to continue with this initiative in the coming years and hope that our commitment to contribute all donations made to WFP throughout this holy month will aid in endorsing a truly pressing cause.” Ashraf Hamouda, Regional Head of Partnerships and Business Development for the World Food Program, said: “WFP is proud to be Ajmal's partner for such a worthy cause. The ‘Mission Million' campaign is only just the beginning of a fruitful collaboration to help eradicate hunger.” WFP calculates that $3.2 billion is needed per year to reach all 66 million hungry school-age children with school meals. Thus through the influence of this alliance between Ajmal perfumes and WFP the vision is to help eradicate child hunger. The “Mission Million” initiative allows as many people as possible to create an impact with their purchases and to engage in the fight against hunger. Each year WFP feeds more than 90 million people in more than 70 countries. Today, around 870 million people do not get enough food to lead a healthy and active life. — SG
