Saiyad, a bone surgery professor and the head of the Bone Surgery Department at King Abdul Aziz University's Medicine Faculty has successfully applied a new technology in bone elongation. Five patients have benefited from the technology at the university's hospital. “The Kingdom is the second country to implement this advanced technique after Germany,” Dr. Al-Saiyad said. “It is an internal elongation of the bone through a remote-controlled screw. Planting the screw requires less than two hours and five days after the screws are tightened elongation starts by 1mm per day. The patient has just to operate the remote control for 90 seconds, the doctor said. Screws can be removed within 18 months, he added.
