Adnan Al-Shabrawi Okaz/Saudi Gazette JEDDAH — An Arab woman is awaiting the execution of a court verdict granting her custody of her children and alimony from her Saudi husband. The woman has two children with her Saudi ex-husband and claims she divorced him because he was physically abusing her and her children. Her appeal to the court resulted in her being granted custody of the children and a SR500 monthly alimony, in addition to SR600 for medical expenses. She said the ruling was issued in 2008, but her ex-husband has not honored it until now. Her iqama expired nine years ago and the ex-husband has kept her passport. She had a replacement passport issued and had submitted a request a year ago to transfer her sponsorship, but she still has not received any response. Spokesman for the General Directorate of Passports Lt. Col. Ahmad Allehaidan said his department was prepared to offer whatever assistance it could within the regulations. He said the woman should submit a request to the governorate explaining her situation, and that she has the right to correct her status, especially since she is the mother of Saudi children.
