Mohammed Al-Bakar Al-Yaum ONCE again the tragic soap opera of orphans being killed by their sponsors is being re-run. The latest of these victims was Faisal, the orphan child who was killed by the head of the family sponsoring him. Faisal was living in a social protection home under the legal and moral responsibility of the Ministry of Social Affairs. The ministry did not bother to check the social and psychological background of the man who volunteered to sponsor the poor child. According to the local media, Faisal was suffering from enuresis. The ministry handed him over to his sponsor without taking the trouble of curing him. The forensic consultant, Dr. Mashhour Al-Waghdani, said his team was astonished by the magnitude of torture on the body of the child. He said they saw burns on the most sensitive parts of his body. According to forensic experts, Faisal was the third orphan to die under torture by a foster family in one year. With such heinous crimes against innocent children, it is imperative that laws should be made for their protection. We are a leading Muslim country and such crimes should never happen in our society. If the murderer is brought to justice, the official of the Ministry of Social Affairs who approved the foster family is also an accomplice in the crime to a lesser degree. It is regrettable that a foster parent would turn into a killer.
