The report “Dependents of expats can work – MOE” (June 28) contains the good news that the Ministry of Education will authorize the wives of expatriates to work in international schools in the Kingdom. Certain conditions will have to be met and one of them is that the teachers will have to pass a qualifying test approved by the ministry. One wonders who will be able to apply and appear for the test and what educational criteria are required and if those with extensive experience in education but without certificates will be accepted. In most international schools, dependent teachers are filling a gap and many of them have an educational background but are not specialized in the subjects which they are teaching.
