DOHA – Qatar Airways is set to increase frequency on its popular Cairo – Doha route to triple daily flights beginning July 1 ahead of the busy summer travel season. The Doha-based carrier is introducing five flights to its current 16 services a week, taking frequency up to three flights each day offering passengers more choice, greater flexibility and additional travel options. Qatar Airways has been flying to Cairo since 1994 – the airline's initial year of operations and the route has proved highly popular both as a leisure and business destination. The airline will be operating a mix of narrow-body Airbus A320s, wide-body Airbus A330s and its flagship Boeing 777 aircraft on flights to and from Cairo. The operating aircraft follow a two-class seat configuration offering seats both in First Class and Economy Class. Apart from flights to Cairo, Qatar Airways has an extensive network in Egypt offering non-stop daily flights to popular gateway cities Alexandria and Luxor. The additional services to Cairo will see Qatar Airways operate a total of 35 flights a week to Egypt. Qatar Airways Chief Executive Officer Akbar Al Baker said “for the second time this year, we've increased capacity between Cairo and Doha due to over whelming demand demonstrating the resurgence in tourism, as well as business travel to and from the Egyptian capital.” “In the space of just three months, Qatar Airways has increased frequency on the route by 24 percent, soon operating three daily flights each morning, afternoon and evening, and with better connectivity to an array of destinations including Beijing, Bangkok, Dubai, Manila, Hong Kong, Singapore, Colombo and cities across the Gulf. Come July 1, our passengers to and from Cairo will be able to enjoy enhanced flight frequency as well as our unmatched Five-Star hospitality onboard our aircraft,” he added. Over the next few months, Qatar Airways will expand with the addition of further destinations –Sulaymaniyah, Iraq (August 20), Chengdu, China (Sept. 3), Addis Ababa, Ethiopia (Sept. 18), Clark International Airport, Philippines (Oct. 28) and Philadelphia, USA (April 2, 2014). Qatar Airways has so far launched six destinations this year – Al-Qassim (Saudi Arabia), Najaf (Iraq), Phnom Penh (Cambodia), Chicago (USA), Salalah (Oman) and Basra (Iraq) – the latter started on June 3. – SG
