Briton Mark Cavendish sprinted to his second straight stage win and extended his lead in the Tour of Missouri on Tuesday. Cavendish collected his 16th victory of the season by about a bike-length in the 203.3km Clinton to Springfield road race, clocking a time of 4 hours, 53 minutes and 19 seconds. Eric Baumann of Germany was second and Francesco Chicchi of Italy repeated his third-place finish in Monday's opening stage. Cavendish, who won four stages of this year's Tour de France, began the day with a four-second lead. He gained an additional 10 seconds of bonus time and now leads Chicchi by 12 seconds with five stages of the week-long event remaining. Baumann lies third overall, trailing the leader by 14 seconds along with American Tyler Farrar. Cavendish's teammates rode often at the front of the field and controlled the stage throughout, just as they did on Monday.
