LONDON — British Cycling says its president Brian Cookson will challenge Pat McQuaid for the presidency of world governing body UCI in a bid to restore the sport's reputation. McQuaid, who has led the UCI for eight years, is seeking a third four-year term in September despite criticism of his leadership in the Lance Armstrong doping case. Cookson has been a member of the UCI management committee since 2009. He said the “first priority for the new UCI president must be to change the way that anti-doping is managed so that people can have confidence in the sport.” He has been promoted by media as a suitable candidate to restore cycling's image. — AP
