A Palestinian expatriate was sentenced to 10-months in jail and 150 lashes for providing shelter to a divorced woman who had escaped from her family. The sentence was handed down by the District Court in Jeddah on Monday. The 37-year-old divorced woman had been missing from her family home for four months. Her family and ex-husband denied knowing anything about her whereabouts. Her ex-husband was taken into custody for a period of time until the woman was found in an apartment rented by the 33-year-old expatriate auto-mechanic working in Jeddah. The District Court sentence has been referred to the Court of Cassation to look into the demand by the Prosecutor General to issue a stiffer verdict. – Okaz __
