TRIPOLI —The Central Bank has chosen Benghazi for next month's launch of the new LD50 note, which carries on one side, a picture of the city's Italian lighthouse. The Gaddafi-era LD50 notes were withdrawn in February 2012, not because they bore a picture of the late dictator in a pair of sunglasses, said Central Bank officials at the time, but because there was concern at the hoarding of an estimated LD15 billion in cash outside the banking system, much of it in the two higher denomination notes. — Libya Herald
