CHENNAI — An all-round performance on the field from the Chennai Super Kings enabled them to record their 11th win of the Indian Premier League 2013 when they completed a 33-run victory over Delhi Daredevils Tuesday. This win takes them back to the top of the table, ahead of the Mumbai Indians, with 22 points from 15 games. Chasing 169, Delhi Daredevils' batting followed a familiar downfall as they just did not seem to have the energy to take the fight to a dominant Chennai bowling attack. And its innings ended at 135-9. Brief scores: Chennai Super Kings 168-4 (MS Dhoni 58 n.o., M. Vijay 31; Umesh Yadav 2-26) beat Delhi Daredevils 135-9 (D. Warner 44, A. Morkel 3-32, R. Ashwin 2 for 19) by 33 runs. In the first match of the day in Bangalore, Adam Gilchrist and Azhar Mahmood stunned the Royal Challengers Bangalore on their own turf as Kings XI Punjab successfully chased a target of 175 for the loss of three wickets. This makes things interesting in the league as the table is now wide open with his result. Things get tougher for Bangalore, while Punjab holds on to its ray of hope. Bangalore remains on the fourth spot with one game to go as Punjab is placed sixth with two games left. Gilchrist won the toss and elected to bowl first. Punjab's pacers kept things quiet early on. Gayle did not get a lot of the strike in the initial overs and it was Pujara who took most of it. Even after Pujara was dismissed, Kohli and Gayle found it difficult to get things going and were struggling. However, they unleashed an array of strokes after the 13th over. Gayle got stuck into the bowling, smashing Gony for three sixes in an over. There was a lot of drama toward the end as Parvinder Awana was hit for a couple of sixes, but also outsmarted the batsmen. He had Gayle off his feet and also yorked him later. AB de Villiers did not last long. A short stint by Rahul took Bangalore beyond 170. Punjab made a change to their batting order as Shaun Marsh opened the batting with Gilchrist. They got off to a good start as they found the boundaries early on. However, Zaheer got through Marsh's defense in the third over. There was another promotion as Azhar Mahmood walked in at number three. Mahmood took the attack to Bangalore in the sixth over as he smashed Moises Henriques for three boundaries and Gilchrist was getting into his elements as he started accelerating. He got to his fifty in the 14th over. Mahmood then got to his mark by lofting Muralitharan over long-on for a six. In the last five over, Punjab needed only 35 and it was all too easy from that point. Mahmood fell for 61 but Gilchrist was on song to finish the game for Punjab with 11 balls to spare. Brief scores: Royal Challengers Bangalore 174-5 (C. Gayle 77, V. Kohli 58; P. Awana 3-39, A. Mahmood 2-25) lost to Kings XI Punjab 176-3 in 18.1 overs (A. Gilchrist 85 n.o., A.
