RIYADH – Saudi Customs will not allow the import of low-efficiency air-conditioners as of Sept. 7, 2013, Spokesman of the Customs Department Abdullah Al-Kharboush told the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) on Tuesday. Saudi Customs have specified Sept. 7, 2013 as the deadline for the compulsory application of Saudi standards and specifications for energy consumption efficiency for air-conditioners. The Ministry of Commerce and Industry will not allow the sale of air-conditioners that violate the specifications. The ministry will begin inspection tours of the market from Jan. 1, 2014. Al-Kharboush said the decision follows the approval to raise the minimum limit of the Energy Efficiency Ratio (EER) for air-conditioners by SASO and the Saudi Center for Energy Efficiency. – SG
