Citizens have until 10 October, or 10 Shawwal, to file applications for the issuing or renewal of licenses for their firearms, the Ministry of Interior said in a statement late on Saturday. The ministry's statement said that citizens have until that date to submit applications to the concerned authorities to settle their positions regarding the licensing of arms in their possession, and their renewal or disposal in regular ways. It added that obtaining licenses would keep citizens away from accountability and ensuing punishment. The ministry stated the necessary conditions for carrying and possessing firearms, stressing that the regular way to get rid of unlicensed arms and ammunitions that citizens do not want to keep in their possession is to hand them over to the nearest police station or governorate. The ministry called upon citizens having unlicensed arms or expired licenses to apply for licenses and their renewal, indicating that citizens possessing arms by inheritance should apply for licensing them to one of the heirs, or handing them over to the ministry or any person having the conditions to be licensed during the remaining period so as not to be subject to accountability.
