Navodaya Kudumbavedi, the family section of the Navodaya Socio–Cultural organization, conducted a one-day summer vacation camp for expats from the southern Indian state of Kerala. Named “Avadhikoottam-2008”, the camp was for the expat families who have not gone back home for spending their holidays. It was meant to provide the participating families the much needed mental relaxation and day off from their busy lifestyle. Various games, competitions, music class, amateur dramatics, painting class etc were held for participants. The programs for the children were conducted by Vandoor Unni, Nidhish Muthambalam, Pavithran Kannur and Soman. The programs for the grownups included debate on contemporary subjects like issues of expat life, family life and issues back home like the controversial Seventh Grade textbook of Kerala. The programs were conducted by C.V.Jose, Pavanan and Rasheed Mararikulam. There was also a magic show by Shyju Mahi. Dr. Madhusudhanan Panikar, of Muhammed Dossary Hospital, took a study class on cardiac diseases, a major cause of expat death in the Kingdom. Navodaya Central committee members like M.M. Naeem, Basheer Varodu, M.M. Musthapha, E.M.Kabeer, Bhaskaran Sreekhandapuram, Asad Thirur participated in the camp. All participating children were given certificates. __
