JEDDAH — Mother, Baby & Kids Expo, one of the biggest family exhibitions in Saudi Arabia, concluded Friday on a high note. Thousands of visitors thronged the exhibition, which kicked off Tuesday at the Jeddah Center for Forums and Events. It was launched by Raeed Sunaidi, and was sponsored by Bupa Arabia, Fisher Price, GSK, Nutricia (part of Danone), Play Nation and Palmers skincare. The four-day exhibition emphasized on mother and child health care and nutrition. Dr.Fawaz Edris hosted a book reading and signing segment, which was appreciated by all. Dr. Talah Abu Minshar of IMC discussed about dental health, and Dr. Modi Baturjy emphasized on the importance of breast feeding. Dr.Israar from Egypt, Abbott Co., Similac, discussed about the importance of breast feeding in the first two years of child's development. As an alternative to breast milk, the doctor said, formula milk chosen should be rich in DHA, AA, and should be free from Palmolan oil and impurities. Discussions were held on safe pregnancy exercises and medications, baby nutrition, how to get back in shape post pregnancy, bed-wetting solutions, gestational diabetes, First Aid training, children's chest allergy and second hand smokers, and IVF gender selection by Dr. Samir Abbas Clinic. The Fast Track kids' school talked about I-pad educational apps, How to turn your child from naughty to nice, and how to increase the 5C's — creativity, communication, collaboration, critical thinking and confidence. According to Zainab Khan of Bupa Medical Insurance, fruits and vegetables and certain exercises helps develop a child's vision and dental care. Bupa launched an edutainment program where children were taught about fruits, vegetable, vitamins, minerals, proteins, among others. A certificate was given to the child at the end of the session. Simon Blazeby, group exhibition director for Reed Sunaidi, said: “We researched the market carefully and found that many Saudi women with babies and young children wanted to come to an event that was specifically designed for them. “They wanted a fun and comfortable environment, where they could relax, learn, interact with friends and see the latest trends. We are delivering an event that we believe will exceed their expectations.” The exhibition also featured an exclusive seminar program organized by the “Moms-to-be-magazine,” focusing on nutrition, health and hygiene. Mothers were advised on pregnancy, childcare, first aid, and baby massage sessions. Dr. Weaam Abbaddi of IMC in a seminar explained about First-Aid and health measures. The event also showcased live shows from Sesame Street and other famous TV show. Mothers-to-be with an eye for fashion found beautiful maternity wear, and children “catwalk” on the ramp sporting latest designs. Lana Alfadl, show manager, said: “As a working mother myself I know that Saudi women are increasingly busy. They want to network, discover new ideas and find ways to make family life easier. “The exhibition created an environment for all mothers, where they were able to meet experts, ask questions, and of course, find some wonderful family products.” There were even raffle draws and exciting prizes from Walt Disney, IMC and various other sponsors.
