Published in The Saudi Gazette on 24 - 09 - 2024

RIYADH — The Riyadh Region Mayoralty announced the signing of five contracts worth SR6 billion to improve the quality of roads in the capital city for a period of five years. This is an extension of its strategic plans to improve the transportation experience, as the work area within the scope of the contracts reached 83 million square meters for a vibrant Riyadh in accordance with the best standards of efficiency and sustainability.
The contracts aimed to raise and improve the quality of roads, and to improve the safe transportation experience within the city and bring it to an advanced level of international standards for measuring road quality. This is also to enhance the efficiency and sustainability of the services provided, and include renovation and asphalt works, by improving the road network. The projects will be implemented in coordination with a number of concerned authorities until the year 2028 to serve residents and visitors to the city.
The mayoralty follows the mechanism of dividing the city into five zones, including the north, south, east, west and central zone, to determine work priorities according to precise standards resulting from a complete survey of the capital's roads and streets. This will be through using the latest technologies and dividing them into work areas that take into account the quality of existing roads, safety standards, maintenance work, and coordination with the work of other entities in the city.
The Riyadh Infrastructure Projects Center, which was established by a decision of the Council of Ministers on July 19, 2023, contributes within its roles to ensure that there is no duplication of work and the sustainability of road quality improvement work during that period by preparing a comprehensive detailed plan for infrastructure project work in the Riyadh Region, including programs allocated to each project, specific timetables, and planned implementation phases.
The Riyadh Region Mayoralty's signing of these exceptional contracts in addition to the regular contracts comes to improve the quality of roads within the framework of its efforts to achieve the city's ambitious goals, and in a way that contributes to improving the quality of life in the capital, and creating a sustainable and prosperous environment.
This is to achieve the goals of the Kingdom's Vision 2030, according to the center's goal to improve infrastructure project work in the Riyadh Region to transform Riyadh into one of the most sustainable cities in the world, as well as to raise the efficiency of infrastructure, improve spending efficiency, and improve the transportation experience
