MADINAH — The Quba Mosque, situated in Madinah, holds the distinction of being the first mosque established by Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) following his migration from Makkah. This historic mosque, which saw the Prophet laying its foundation stones and his companions completing the construction, continues to serve as a significant place of worship close to the Prophet's Mosque. Renowned for its historical importance and the virtues of praying there, the Quba Mosque attracts both locals and visitors, making it one of the most visited mosques in Madinah. It facilitates all daily prayers, including the special Friday and Eid prayers, showcasing its pivotal role in the Muslim community. The mosque has witnessed several renovations throughout history to preserve its rich heritage. Notably, in 1388 AH, its external walls were refurbished, and it underwent a significant expansion on the northern side. Further enhancements were made in 1405 AH when King Fahd ordered a comprehensive rebuild and expansion, ensuring the preservation of its traditional aspects. These renovations expanded the prayer hall to 5,035 square meters and the overall mosque and its facilities to 13,500 square meters from an original 1,600 square meters. Additions like a library and marketing area were introduced to further serve the visitors, enriching their spiritual and educational experience at the mosque. Continuing this legacy of growth and preservation, the current Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman and Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed Bin Salman have announced an unprecedented expansion project for the Quba Mosque. Named after King Salman, this initiative is set to expand the mosque's total area to 50,000 square meters, allowing it to accommodate up to 66,000 worshippers. This expansion signifies a monumental step in enhancing the mosque's capacity to serve as a historical and spiritual sanctuary for Muslims worldwide.
