KSrelief launches comprehensive aid initiatives for Syrian refugees in Jordan
Published in The Saudi Gazette on 20 - 10 - 2023

AMMAN — Dr. Abdullah Al Rabeeah, Advisor to the Royal Court and General Supervisor of the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center (KSrelief), inaugurated six crucial projects in Amman aimed at supporting Syrian refugees and host communities. The projects, totaling $19.5 million, focus on providing essential needs such as food, shelter, and health requirements.
The inauguration ceremony, attended by dignitaries including the Kingdom's ambassador to Jordan and representatives of international, regional, and local humanitarian organizations, marked a significant step in addressing the ongoing challenges faced by Syrian refugees and their host communities.
Dr. Al Rabeeah expressed his pleasure in sharing the responsibility toward Syrian refugees and commended Jordan for its pivotal role in hosting and caring for them. Saudi Arabia's commitment to providing relief support to the Syrian people has been steadfast since the onset of the humanitarian crisis. This commitment extends to hosting Syrian refugees in the Kingdom, supporting them with necessary services, and implementing relief projects in areas of need in Syria and neighboring countries.
The KSrelief aid efforts, totaling $123.2 billion globally, emphasize the Saudi government's consistent policy of humanitarian work. Dr. Al Rabeeah highlighted the importance of collective responsibility and the need for concerted efforts to protect humanitarian work teams against violations.
Six agreements were signed with international and regional organizations to support Syrian refugees in Jordan. These include operating 15 KSrelief clinics, a laboratory, and a pharmacy in Zaatari Camp to improve the health situation for Syrian refugees. The project aims to provide primary and secondary healthcare and emergency medical care services, benefiting 83,000 refugees.
The King Hussein Cancer Center will implement the third phase of a project supporting the treatment of cancer patients among Syrian refugees in Jordan, with an agreement worth $3.4 million. Another agreement worth $2 million with Jordan Hashemite Charity Organization (JHCO) will implement the second phase of a project to distribute vouchers for winter clothing among the most underprivileged Syrian and Palestinian refugee families and host communities in the 12 Jordanian governorates, benefiting around 34,000 individuals.
The World Food Program will implement the third phase of a project to ensure food security for Syrian refugees in Zaatari Camp, providing monthly e-vouchers to beneficiaries for purchasing food items. The project is expected to benefit approximately 54,000 refugees. Additionally, an agreement worth $1 million with the International Medical Corps will provide mental health and child protection services to refugees and host communities in Jordan, benefiting 2,800 individuals in the governorates of Amman and Irbid.
Lastly, an agreement worth $3.2 million with JHCO will provide 2,000 tons of dates to Jordan.
Dr. Al Rabeeah expressed hope that these initiatives would contribute to alleviating the suffering of Syrian refugees and emphasized the importance of continued efforts until they can return to their country for reconstruction and development.
