RIYADH — In a series of diplomatic calls, Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal Bin Farhan called on UN Security Council members to uphold their responsibility in maintaining international peace and security by pushing for an immediate cessation of military operations and the lifting of the siege on Gaza.
During a phone call with the Minister of European and Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Albania Igli Hasani the two discussed the situation in Gaza and international efforts to address it.
Emphasizing the rejection of targeting civilians and the need for all parties to respect international humanitarian law, Prince Faisal urged Albania, a non-permanent member of the Security Council, to actively work towards peace and security.
Similar calls were made to the Maltese Minister of Foreign Affairs Ian Borg and Indonesian Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi.
In both conversations, developments in Gaza were discussed, with a focus on rejecting the targeting of civilians and the urgency of respecting international humanitarian law.
As non-permanent members of the Security Council, both Albania and Malta were urged to play a role in pushing for an immediate end to military operations and the lifting of the Gaza siege.
Minister Prince Faisal stressed the importance of the Security Council implementing its decisions on the Palestinian issue, including Resolutions 242 (1967), 338 (1873), 1515 (2003), and 2334 (2016), to establish a just and sustainable solution in accordance with relevant international references.
The calls also emphasized the need for intensified international communication to address the urgent humanitarian situation in Gaza and bring relief to the Palestinian people.
Prince Faisal also discussed the latest developments in Gaza with Indonesian Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi.
The two sides touched on the importance of intensifying communication with the international community to carry out its responsibility toward reaching a just and comprehensive solution to the Palestinian cause.
