DELHI — Kings XI Punjab stretched their winning streak to two games with a five-wicket win over the Delhi Daredevils in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2013 at the Feroz Shah Kotla Stadium here. The KXIP bowlers put on a disciplined show restricting DD to just 120 runs before their batsmen chased it down with three overs to spare. Chasing a meager 121, KXIP lost its captain Adam Gilchrist (6) early but Mandeep Singh and Luke Pomersbach rallied the team. At the halfway stage, KXIP was 77 for 4, still requiring 44 from 60. David Miller and David Hussey played sensibly by picking up the singles and hitting the occasional boundary to put on 40 runs.
Hussey (20) slammed a six straight back over Nehra in the 16th over before falling the next delivery. Miller (34 not out) saw KXIP home with 18 balls remaining and he had the company of Piyush Chawla (5). Earlier, KXIP won the toss and put DD in. Praveen Kumar drew first blood having Mahela Jayawardene (4) edge to David Hussey at slip. Parvinder Awana then had Roelof van der Merwe (8) caught by Mandeep Singh to leave DD two down in the fourth over. Virender Sehwag went after Harmeet Singh hitting him for a boundary and following it with a six in the fifth over. DD made 40 runs from their power play overs. Harmeet Singh then had the dangerous Sehwag (23) caught at cover. At the halfway stage, DD was 54 for 3. Wickets continued to fall and DD finally finished at 120 for 7. Brief Scores: Delhi Daredevils 120 for 7 (David Warner 41, Harmeet Singh 3-24) lost to Kings XI Punjab 121 for 5 in 17 overs (David Miller 34 n.o., Roelof van der Merwe 1-17) by 5 wickets. — Agencies
