Kingdom's embassy in US confirms killer of Saudi student Al-Gharibi arrested Saudi Embassy confirms coordinated follow up on scholarship student's murder
Published in The Saudi Gazette on 28 - 01 - 2023

WASHINGTON — Saudi Arabia's embassy in the United States has confirmed its follow-up, since day one in coordination with the Consulate General in New York, the circumstances that led to the murder of the Saudi scholarship student Al-Walid Al-Gharibi.
The embassy confirmed that the killer was arrested, noting that she is currently under investigation.
Al-Gharibi was killed inside his residential building by an 19-year-old woman American citizen who lived in one of the upper floors of the house in which Al-Gharibi lived.
The embassy completed all necessary procedures with the concerned American authorities to transfer the body of the student Al-Gharibi to Saudi Arabia.
It has also appreciated everyone who cooperated with it, especially the American security authorities in the city of Philadelphia, since this incident occurred.
Saudi Ambassador to the US Princess Reema Bint Bandar has contacted the Al-Gharibi's family to express sincere condolences on this painful circumstance.
The murder happened on Monday, Jan. 23, around 11:50 a.m. inside a home on the 300 block of Hansberry Street in Germantown, Philadelphia.
Police said officers found a 25-year-old man suffering a stab wound to the neck in the third-floor bathroom. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.
The 25-year-old student was preparing to finish his scholarship journey. He had two months to complete the graduation course before returning to the Kingdom. It was found that the suspected killer stole his mobile phone and other valuables before fleeing the scene.
The police had announced earlier that it was offering a reward of $20,000 to those providing information leading to the arrest and conviction of the fugitive suspect Nicole Marie Rodgers, 19, from Columbus, Georgia.
The police charged the woman with murder, robbery, burglary, and theft.
