French referee Stephanie Frappart became the first woman to officiate a FIFA World Cup men's match Thursday. Frappart, 38, is assisted in the Costa Rica and Germany match by two female officials -- Brazil's Neuza Back and Karen Diaz from Mexico. FIFA assigned the all-female trio to the Group E match on Tuesday at Al Bayt Stadium. Frappart was also the first woman to referee a French top-tier Ligue 1 and UEFA Champions League match. She was the referee at the 2019 UEFA Super Cup title match between Liverpool and Chelsea. Liverpool beat Chelsea 5-4 on penalties to win the Super Cup at Istanbul's Vodafone Park Stadium. — Agencies
