GCC chief: Yemeni-Yemeni consultations launched while world is busy with global issues
Published in The Saudi Gazette on 30 - 03 - 2022

The Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Secretary General Dr. Nayef Falah Mubarak Al-Hajraf has stressed that the Yemeni-Yemeni consultations are launched while the world is busy with accelerating international circumstances and changes and difficult political, military and economic conditions.
The remarks were made during the inauguration of the Yemeni-Yemeni consultations, which are held between March 29 and April 7, 2022 under the auspices of GCC at the headquarters of the Secretariat General in Riyadh.
Dr. Al-Hajraf noted in his speech that GCC praises the presence of all to participate in the consultation and highlights a set of fixed positions amidst a world of changes, which are: the fixed positions of GCC in supporting the security and stability of Yemen, working to find a solution to the Yemeni crisis that end the conflict and moves Yemen from the state of war and its repercussions to a state of peace.
This they hope to achieve according to the three references of the Gulf initiative and its executive mechanisms, the outcomes of the comprehensive Yemeni dialogue and the UN Security Resolution 2216, and that the Riyadh Agreement represents a roadmap and a Yemeni national entitlement, where the completion of its items is a Yemeni requirement.
He also referred to the support of the international community and efforts of international envoys to move forward towards a peaceful solution, create a solid ground to launch a political course among all the Yemeni components, and support the state's constitutional institutions with keenness on their effectiveness and ensuring they can implement their tasks and responsibilities.
He also stressed there is no solution but the peaceful one, and that the war with all its hardships cannot realize the envisioned security and stability, expressing hope for the consultations to mark the start of a year of relief for people.
The secretary general said that the Yemeni-Yemeni consultations with its six aspects (political, economic and development, relief and humanitarian, social, and media aspects) represent a platform for Yemenis to diagnose the reality and understand its difficulties, predict the future and prepare for its challenges and plan practical steps that move Yemen from the state of war and its woes to the state of peace and its hopes.
He added, hopes of peace can light the torches of thought for giving and help Yemeni arms in construction, especially that there is no solution but what Yemenis decide and there is no future except for what Yemenis agree on; the solution is Yemeni with Yemeni hands for the Yemenis.
He added that the efforts of the international community are highly appreciated through it envoys present today and form an international support to end the conflict in Yemen through the resolutions of the UN Security Council and supporting all procedures that can realize security and stability.
He said this forms a historic opportunity that should be utilized and build on it to preserve the Yemeni dossier as a priority that receives the attention and follow up of the international community until the war ends and the battle of building and reconstruction starts.
He also said that the Yemeni-Yemeni consultations are launched while the world is busy with accelerating international circumstances and changes and difficult political, military and economic conditions that require Yemenis to understand these circumstances and study their impacts and evaluate their ramifications on the entire world and on Yemen in particular, and that Yemenis are moving on with hopes to realize unity.
The secretary general said that the success of the consultations is not an option rather a duty that requires all to feel the national responsibility and discard all reasons of division and domestic differences and to effectively contribute to realizing the required and urgent national reconciliation necessary to build a clear future map to restore stability in Yemen and achieve the development and welfare of its people.
He added that the road towards security and peace in Yemen is not impossible even with bigger challenges, nor is it far away even with longer distances, nor is it an option event with several alternatives, yet it is a sole purpose and sublime goal so as Yemen and its brotherly people can enjoy security and stability.
This requires all Yemenis to put Yemen's interest, future, security, stability above all other considerations that can be changed into realities with the hands of its own people as part of certain priorities, timetable and a follow up mechanism to be implemented with the determination of Yemenis with the support of their brothers and the international community.
He went on to say that we are aware that Yemenis, known for their wisdom and belief, will realize their noble lofty goals that contributed to launching the Yemeni-Yemeni consultations, and that the huge efforts exerted to provide proper circumstances to launch these consultation are appreciated.
This especially that the command of the Coalition to support legitimacy in Yemen has responded quickly and announced a ceasefire Tuesday, which went into effect at 6 a.m. Wednesday in conjunction with the launch of the consultation as an appreciated and supportive response to these efforts.
In the end, Dr. Al-Hajraf expressed his gratitude and appreciation to all those who participated in launching these consultations. — SPA
