RIYADH — The Arab Coalition supporting legitimacy in Yemen announced on Tuesday that it will stop military operations in Yemen to ensure success of GCC-sponsored consultations and to create positive environment for peacemaking efforts during Ramadan upon request from GCC Secretary-General Dr. Nayef Al-Hajraf. "In response to the request made by GCC Secretary-General Dr. Nayef Al-Hajraf for a cessation of military operations in conjunction with the launch of the Yemeni-Yemeni consultations, and with the view of creating propitious conditions needed for successful consultations and a favorable environment for the Holy Month of Ramadan to make peace, the Joint Forces Command of the Coalition hereby announces cessation of military operations in Yemen beginning at (0600) Wednesday, March. 30 2022 in response to Al-Hajraf's request," an official statement by the official spokesperson of the Coalition to restore legitimacy in Yemen Brigadier General Turki Al-Malki read. The Coalition said it's support all endeavors and efforts to reach a comprehensive, sustainable resolution to the Yemeni conflict, and achieve security and stability in the brotherly nation of Yemen. "This falls under the context of international efforts and initiatives championed by the Special Envoy of the UN Secretary-General for Yemen and the Saudi Initiative to reach a comprehensive political resolution to end the Yemeni conflict." The Joint Forces Command of the Coalition will abide by this cessation, and undertake all necessary steps and procedures to ensure its success, and create the propitious conditions needed for successful consultations and favorable environment for the Holy Month of Ramadan to make peace, and end the conflict. The Joint Forces Command of the Coalition reaffirmed its steadfast position in supporting the legitimate government of Yemen in both its political positions and military procedures and measures. "The Joint Forces Command of the Coalition will always stand by the Yemeni people's side to fulfill their aspirations, build their nation and achieve their security and prosperity," Al-Malki added. Earlier, Al-Hajraf appealed on Arab Coalition to support the legitimacy in Yemen and all Yemeni parties involved to stop military operations in Yemen. He said that the appeal reflects the keenness of the leaders and peoples of the GCC countries to achieve peace and stability in Yemen. Al-Hajraf's statement coincided with Yemeni-Yemeni consultations under the auspices of the GCC, launched Tuesday, days before the start of the holy month of Ramadan. Al-Hajraf renewed the invitation to Houthis to attend and participate in consultations with all other Yemeni parties, to give priority to the interests of Yemen and to alleviate the suffering of the Yemeni people.
