KAMPALA — The Saudi Embassy in Kampala clarified that the tourist trampled to death by an elephant during a game drive at a popular nature park in Uganda is not a Saudi citizen as some media reports claimed. "Some media reported the news of the death of a Saudi tourist in a nature reserve in Uganda, after being run over by a group of elephants." The embassy pointed out on Thursday the inaccuracy in the report and clarified that the tourist is not a Saudi citizen as informed by the reserve's administration. The attack happened on Tuesday at the Murchison Falls National Park when the man left the vehicle he was traveling in with friends, Uganda Wildlife Authority spokesman Bashir Hangi said. Park officials said police would investigate the tourist's death as they reviewed security protocols to "avoid a repeat of such incidents". Animal attacks are not unheard of in the east African country. In 2018, a leopard snatched and ate the three-year-old son of a female game ranger at another park in the west of the country.
