Madina Cricket Association celebrated the 62nd Pakistan Independence Day by organizing a cricket tournament and a get-together here last week. Admiral (Ret.) Shahid Karimullah, Ambassador of Islamic Republic of Pakistan was the chief guest. Saudi Oger won the cricket tourney by beating SADAFCO by 26 runs in final. Batting first, Saudi Oger scored 243 in the allotted 30 overs. Madani and Abdul Rahman made 49 runs each. Azher hit 33 while his younger brother Rashid cracked 30. Iftikhar and Waqas of SADAFCO got three wickets each. A century by SADAFCO captain Ijaz went in vain as his team was bowled out for 217, with three overs left. Ijaz scored 111 runs with four sixes and eight boundaries. He was adjudged as the Man of the Match. Khalid and Ikram of Saudi Oger bagged three wickets each. Ghulam Qadir Nakyana and Qaiser from Qasre Sheerin supervised the match. Chief guest Shahid Karimullah was welcomed and received by a group of children at the Al-Aqool cricket ground. He was accompanied by Shaukat Ali, Community Welfare Attaché of Pakistan Consulate. The other special guests from Jeddah included Tariq Al-Maeena, Iqbal Chaudhry, Akhter and Dr. Khalilur Rhman from Pakistan Welfare Association. The ambassador hoisted the flag as the Pakistan national anthem was played. Syed Zahid Ali, President of Madina Cricket Association (MCA), welcomed all the guests and thanked the support of Tabbaq Hotel, Medina Marhaba Hotel, Madina Taiba Hotel, Matam Ravi, Qasre Sherin and Zain Laboratories for supporting the event. Karimullah presented a trophy, named the Ambassador Cup, to MCA president. Later, the prizes were given away by the ambassador. Hashmat Qazi, Vice President of MCA, proposed a vote of thanks. Later, while speaking at a function at a hotel, Karimullah stressed on unity for progress and peace in the country. He also lauded the efforts of MCA. A book, Kal AAJ Aour Kal (Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow), written by Eng. Rizwan Ahmed, was presented to the chief guest. Special mementoes were also presented to Dr. Khalilur Rahman, Rizwan Akber, Tariq Jawed Ansari, Yousuf Baloch, Jawed Iqbal Butt, Shehla Hashmi, Hashmat Qazi, Amanat Ali, Dr. Syed Insram Ali and Dr. Mujahid. __
