Customs officers in Saudi Arabia on Friday successfully thwarted two attempts to smuggle more than 8.3 million amphetamine pills after finding them hidden in two consignments that arrived at Jeddah Islamic Port. In a statement, the Zakat, Tax and Customs Authority (ZATCA) explained that, in the first attempt, 3,054,000 pills were found hidden inside a consignment of onions, while in the second attempt, 5,281,250 pills were hidden in a consignment of silicone barrels. Upon investigation, three people were arrested for being involved in the smuggling attempts, the authorities said. They will be taken to court.
