Saudi Arabia 2021: Top Four Projects
Published in The Saudi Gazette on 31 - 12 - 2021

In commemoration of this year's achievements, this article will highlight some of the Kingdom's numerous grand efforts that directly contribute to elevating the well-being of its citizens through economic diversification objectives that promise prosperity and environmental initiatives that support sustainability.
The year was filled with many noteworthy and remarkable successes which fall under the 2030 Vision Realization Program that is divided into three pillars; a Vibrant Society, a Thriving Economy and an Ambitious Nation.
Green Initiative (October)
RIYADH — Saudi Arabia brought the world together in Riyadh to take action against climate change in the Middle East Green Summit which was hosted by Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman as an extension of the Saudi Green Initiative (SGI) and Youth Green Summit that took place on Oct. 23rd and 24th.
The initiative was a green roadmap that aims to reducing the risks, uplifting the level of livelihoods and enhance international efforts in preserving the environment. The project demonstrates the solid commitment of the Kingdom and the region towards sustainable development and a global transition to a low carbon future
Four New Laws (February)
RIYADH — The Crown Prince announced in February four laws that represented a new wave of reform to the Kingdom's judicial institutions: the Personal Status Law, the Civil Transactions Law, the Penal Code for Discretionary Sanctions, and the Law of Evidence. They will help clarify the lines of accountability and ensure the consistency of legal references limiting discrepancies in court rulings.
This was a serious step toward developing the Kingdom's legislative environment by entrenching the principles of justice, transparency, protecting human rights and achieving comprehensive and sustainable development, which will in turn reinforce the global competitiveness of the Kingdom based on procedural and institutional references that are objective and clearly identified.
OXAGON Industry City (November)
NEOM — Announced in November to be the largest floating industrial complex in the world by Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, who is the Chairman of the NEOM Company Board of Directors. The project formed the next phase of NEOM's master plan, and represented a radical new model for future manufacturing centers.
OXAGON, developed with the latest technologies in artificial intelligence, contributes in redefining the world's approach to industrial development in the future, protecting the environment while creating jobs and growth for NEOM. In addition to being the catalyst for economic growth and diversity in the Kingdom, further meeting our ambitions under Vision 2030.
NEOM: The Line (January)
NEOM — Announced in January this year, THE LINE is a revolution in urban living in NEOM, and a blueprint for how people and planet can co-exist in harmony. This futuristic city will headfirst address some of the world's most pressing challenges of climate change, urban sprawl, traffic congestion, and social disconnection.
The LINE plays a huge role in stimulating economic diversification, contributing ($48bn) to domestic GDP, and creating 380,000 new jobs. By 2030, the project will home more than 1 million residents and 5 million tourists who will enjoy an enhanced state of well-being with nature being integrated all around them.
The infrastructure also offers high-speed, automated mass transit and autonomous mobility solutions will make travel easier. The LINE's communities will be cognitive, powered by Artificial Intelligence (AI), continuously learning predictive ways to make life easier, along with the agricultural areas which will support food production that's locally grown and sustainable. — SG
