Prince Khalid bin Salman, Yemeni PM review Saudi initiatives to ensure peace and security
Published in The Saudi Gazette on 20 - 12 - 2021

Prince Khalid bin Salman, Deputy Minister of Defense, has met with Yemeni Prime Minister Dr. Maeen Abdulmalek Saeed.
During the meeting, Saudi Arabia's efforts and initiatives aimed at realizing security, stability and peace in Yemen were reviewed, in addition to several issues of mutual interest.
Prince Khalid stressed the commitment of the coalition, led by Saudi Arabia, to supporting the Yemeni government and people and pushing forward all efforts to reach a political solution in Yemen. This can realize the aspirations of the brotherly Yemeni people and maintain the security of the region, he said, renewing the Kingdom's permanent position on supporting the Yemeni government in facing the Iran-backed Houthi insurgency, and maintaining the unity, security and stability of Yemen.
During the meeting, the prince also stressed that Saudi Arabia monitors the difficult economic conditions of the Yemeni people, and welcomes the recent decisions made by the Yemeni government to assess and review the work of the Central Bank of Yemen and tasking the Central Organization for Control and Audit (COCA) in a way that contributes to improving the financial status of the country.
He said moving forward with the reforms will contribute to increasing the economic support from the Kingdom and the international community, and will encourage other donors to participate in supporting the Yemeni government for the interests of the Yemeni people.
For his part, the Yemeni Prime Minister praised the Kingdom's continuous support in all fields, stressing that Saudi Arabia's support to the Central Bank of Yemen has had a big impact on the stability of the Yemeni currency, the economic situation in the country and the availability of foodstuff to improve the living conditions of the Yemeni people.
He said the fuel derivatives grant has also contributed to the sustainability of power supplies and alleviating the financial burdens of the Yemeni government.
Abdulmalek Saeed said the Yemeni government counts on the support of Saudi Arabia and donors in the Gulf Cooperation Council for Arab States or the international community due to the dire state of the Yemeni economy, especially in view of the role of such assistance in developing the economic conditions and alleviating the suffering of the Yemeni people.
The meeting was attended by Saudi Ambassador to Yemen Mohammed Saeed Al Jaber and a number of officials from both sides. — SPA
