WHAT makes young Saudis accept work as a cashier in supermarkets or prepare food in McDonald's will also make them accept work in the retail sector which is being dominated by foreigners. Work in the retail shops does not require rare specializations or high qualifications. It only requires courage on the part of the businessmen who are very fond of foreigners and who have made the Saudi citizens beg for employment from the foreign managers of their companies and establishments. The businessmen have only two options: the Saudi citizen or the Saudi citizen. If there are Saudis who can only accept government or office jobs, let them wait for rain in August. However, I am sure that the majority of young Saudis have a different attitude now. They have certificates in various specializations and are ready to work for the private sector whenever there are real opportunities that will provide them with a fair pay. They are worthy of being employed in their own country. With the exception of the foreigners who were born in the Kingdom and are legally staying here, I do not understand the need to import newly graduated young men from outside. They have no previous experience of working for private companies and establishments. Actually work in these establishments does not require more than the marketing skills which could be gained by practice and little guidance. If the low pay and the full-time work are what drive private companies and establishments to employ foreigners, they should realize that the economic and social interest of their country is much more important than their financial gains. Most of the companies that have Saudized jobs are very successful now. Their Saudi employees do their work with dexterity and competence. These companies have succeeded in striking the balance that enabled them to achieve productivity against fair pay and privileges that ensures job stability.
