The Communications and Information Technology Commission (CITC) has published a public consultation on "Digital Content Platform Regulations Document" as part of its initiatives under the Digital Content Council that was approved by the Saudi Cabinet on Sept. 28. The initiative is aimed to regulate, govern, activate, and motivate digital content platforms to expand and grow. In addition it aims to engage the private sector, empower entrepreneurs as well as attract investments and protect users of digital content platforms. These comprehensive regulatory proposals stem from CITC's overarching initiative: "Create clear and transparent licensing framework for digital content platforms". This in turn is aligned with the General Commission for Audiovisual Media (GCAM) and other supporting government stakeholders; aiming to create a regulatory framework for digital content platforms in line with global standards and best practices that supports the commission's strategic developmental objectives, taking into account the appropriate legislative requirements. The commission calls on interested parties from Saudi Arabia and abroad as well as the public to submit their views on the consultations document before Nov. 30, 2021.
