Hurricanes are intense tropical cyclones (storms) that form in the central Atlantic Ocean, Caribbean Sea, Gulf of Mexico or in the eastern Pacific Ocean. They are large, rotating storms with winds moving around a relatively calm center called the ‘eye'. The combination of the size and violence of the hurricane produces a natural phenomenon with great destructive power. __
