Houthis endangering lives of over a million Yemenis in Marib, says US envoy Lenderking says US will impose sanctions on 2 Houthi leaders for Marib offensive
WASHINGTON — Yemeni civilians are facing great dangers due to deteriorating humanitarian situations in the country, said Tim Lenderking, the US special envoy for Yemen. Talking to reporters during a virtual press conference on Thursday, the US special envoy accused the Iranian-backed Houthi militia of endangering the lives of more than 1 million Yemenis in Marib, pointing out that the United States will impose sanctions on two Houthi leaders for their role in the offensive. Lenderking also claimed Iran is continuing to arm and train the Houthi militia in Yemen. "We note the Iranian support for the Houthis in terms of training and arming. We have also not yet seen any positive Iranian attempt to end the conflict in Yemen," he added. The US State Department had announced earlier that the permanent solution in Yemen begins with stopping the Houthi attacks on Marib.
