Create your identity
Published in The Saudi Gazette on 16 - 05 - 2021

A human being's identity is known by the way one presents oneself and this can be seen through the individual's ideas, behaviors and costume. I find this subject of "identity" interesting, as the details of this theme can lead us to deeper dimensions rather than the appearance itself — the personality of the character in particular and the society in general.
Princess Reema Bint Bandar, for example, can be considered as a role model for Saudi females in the way she picks her clothes and Abaya colors, having a natural hair color, Middle Eastern style of make up, wearing sand tone foundation and eye shadow, bronzer blush and applying Arabic eye makeup, black eyeliner, for instance, the person looking at her photos will see the depth of a Saudi culture that is evident in the taste of our ladies.
That's why I was glad to hear of a Fashion Authority in Saudi Arabia, announcing a new strategy to develop the fashion sector in the Kingdom. This undoubtedly will enhance the essential meaning of identity, considering it being one of the concerns of Vision 2030.
This blessed step will help add economic value in the Kingdom, by calling those Saudis innovators to bring their thoughts about identity, while providing varying shapes and new descriptions to the personal profile of the Saudi identity.
Honestly, we have many successful Saudi designers who have established their own signature brand, especially Abaya designers and also fragrances makers, as some of these chose the modern line and some chose the traditional line steeped in heritage, while there are some who mixed both by blending the modern with tradition to create their identity.
All the varying efforts are working, considering the different tastes of people. But, I wish these creations come with an adjusted price as many of them are asking unreasonable prices, above SR1,000 for one Abaya and some even reaching SR3,000!
How we handle our physical appearance says a lot about us, as the power and quality of one is evident in the way one attracts and fascinates others. A set of clothes in typical style, for example, would have persuasive or impressive effect just like a meaningful content. Thus, don't forget to create your identity.
