Pvt. sector pays women half as men: MoL report

RIYADH — The average salary of Saudi female workers in the private sector is SR2,824 while that of their male counterparts is SR5,686, according to the last annual report of the fiscal year 2011 issued by the Ministry of Labor, Al-Hayat daily reported. The average salary of non-Saudi women working in the private sector is SR1,528 while that of non-Saudi men is SR938, the report said.
The report noted that the Saudi women working in the private sector in the Eastern Province are paid the highest average salary in the Kingdom at SR3,429 while Saudi women working in the same sector in Najran region are paid the lowest average SR1,569 a month.
Saudi men receive the highest average salary in the Eastern Province at SR7,841 while in Al-Baha region Saudi men are paid the lowest average salary of SR2190.
Non-Saudi women working in the EP's private sector are paid average monthly salary of SR3,151 while their counterparts in Al-Jouf region are paid the lowest average salary at SR859.
Non-Saudi men working in the private sector of Riyadh are paid the highest average monthly salary at SR1,036 while their male counterparts in Al-Jouf are paid the lowest at SR588.
The report said that the number of Saudi women working as managers in the private sector is 5,934 and their average salary is SR4,215. Seventeen Saudi women work in the sector of agriculture and cattle breeding and their average monthly pay is SR1,783. About 1,411 Saudi women work in the sector of mines, oil, and gas and their average monthly salary is SR16,317. There are 18709 Saudi women working in the sector of construction and their average monthly salary is SR2,229. The total number of women working in the private sector is 99,486, the report said.
It said the number of Saudi women working in technical and scientific jobs in the private sector is 8,796 and their average monthly salary is SR4,215.
About 30,000 women work as clerks and secretaries in the private sector and their average monthly salary is SR3,178. Over 10,000 Saudi women work as saleswomen and their average monthly salary is SR2,044. There are 2,414 Saudi women working in food and chemical industries and their average monthly salary is SR1,917, the report said.
