MADINAH — Adel, the Yemeni child who was tortured by his father, has left for Yemen to live with his mother while the father, a research scholar at a Saudi university, will remain behind bars in Madinah, Al-Hayat daily reported on Saturday. Adel's maternal uncle told Al-Hayat that his nephew was in a terrible psychological state and he went to Yemen to stay with his mother for a while. He said some people convinced the father to authorize the uncle to take Adel to his mother in Yemen. “The father agreed on condition that the case against him is dropped.” The uncle added that when the mother reunited with her son, there were tears of sadness and joy. Adel had a broken arm and many contusions all over his body as a result of his father's maltreatment. Despite that, Adel still worries about his father's fate and he does not want his father to be hurt or stay longer in prison. But the same time, he is scared that if his father is released, Adel might suffer continued abuse. “Adel wants to stay with his mother,” said his uncle. Adel's case was brought to light when his teacher discovered signs of torture and burns all over his body. The teacher reported the incident to the police, an investigation was opened, and the father was arrested and put in jail. The medical report issued at the time indicated that Adel was suffering from bleeding in the left eye and the brain, fracture inside the eye's cavity, burns and wounds in the scalp, contusions all over the body, and fracture in the right arm. The doctors who saw him recommended that he should be followed up by neurosurgery consultant and orthopedics consultant and Adel should receive full psychological care.
