RIYADH — New coronavirus cases in Saudi Arabia surpassed the number of recoveries for the first time in three weeks as the Ministry of Health recorded on Wednesday 175 new cases of coronavirus and 156 new recoveries over the past 24 hours. On Dec. 23, the Kingdom reported 177 new cases against 169 recoveries. This brings the total number of confirmed infections in the Kingdom to 364,271 and recoveries to 356,013. The ministry announced just four more deaths over the past 24 hours due to complications caused by COVID-19, taking the total number of virus-related fatalities to 6,304. The Eastern region reported the highest number of infections with 45 cases, followed by the Riyadh and Makkah regions with 43 cases each and the Madinah region with 9 cases. The remaining cases were detected in different other regions of the Kingdom. The active cases in Saudi Arabia also dropped to 1,954 out of which 307 were critical cases.
