Worldwide coronavirus cases cross 37.35m, death toll at 1,073,862

More than 37.35 million people have been reported to be infected by the novel coronavirus globally and 1,073,862 have died, according to a Reuters tally. With 214,375 deaths and 7,745,140 confirmed cases, the United States topped the list of 20 countries with the highest recorded infections and deaths in the world.
The US is followed by India, Brazil, Russia, Colombia, Argentina, Spain, Peru, Mexico, France, South Africa, the United Kingdom, Iran, Chile, Iraq, Bangladesh, Italy, the Philippines, Saudi Arabia, and Turkey.
Infections have been reported in more than 210 countries and territories since the first cases were identified in China in December 2019.
India's total coronavirus cases rose by 66,732 in the last 24 hours to 7.12 million on Monday morning, data from the Health Ministry showed.
Deaths from COVID-19 infections rose by 816 to 109,150, the ministry said. India's coronavirus case load topped 7 million on Sunday and the country has added a million cases in just 13 days. It has the second-highest number of infections, behind the United States, which is approaching the 8 million mark.
The number of confirmed coronavirus cases in Germany increased by 2,467 to 325,331 and the reported death toll rose by 6 to 9,621, data from the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) for infectious diseases showed on Monday.
Russia reported 13,592 new coronavirus cases on Monday, almost the most recorded in a single day since the pandemic began, pushing the national tally to 1,312,310. Officials also said 125 people had died in the previous 24 hours, pushing the official death toll to 22,722.
In Rabat, Morocco recorded 2563 new cases of coronavirus during the past 24 hours, bringing the total number of cases to 152,404. The Moroccan Ministry of Health Monday stated that it recorded 33 deaths due to the virus, bringing the number of deaths since the start of the pandemic in the country to 2,605, while the total number of recoveries rose to 127,407.
In Jakarta, Indonesia reported 4,497 new coronavirus infections and 79 new deaths on Sunday, the lowest daily fatality count since Sept. 27, data from the country's Health Ministry website showed, Reuters reported. The new infections brought the total infections tally in Southeast Asia's biggest economy to 333,449, the data showed, while the total deaths rose to 11,844.
In Abuja, as many as 111 cases of novel coronavirus COVID-19 have been reported in Nigeria over the past 24 hours. In a statement, the Ministry of Health of Nigeria said that this brings to 60,103 the number of those who contracted coronavirus COVID-19 to date while the total number of deaths amounted to 1,115. — SPA
