US President Donald Trump on Wednesday made a phone call to Oman's Sultan Haitham Bin Tariq. They discussed ways to enhance regional security and strengthen economic ties between the two countries, the White House said in a statement. The US president thanked the Omani leader for expressing his support for a US-brokered agreement between the United Arab Emirates and Israel to normalize relations, according to the White House statement. "President Trump highlighted the importance of the United States-brokered Abraham Accords announced on August 13th and thanked the Sultan for Oman's comments in support of the Israel-United Arab Emirates deal," the statement said. Oman is being speculated to be another country that could follow the UAE lead in normalizing relations with Israel, but the White House statement did not make any comments in this regard. White House adviser Jared Kushner last week said he hoped another Arab country would normalize ties with Israel within months. The UAE is the third Arab country to agree to official relations with Israel, after Egypt and Jordan but other Arab states seek a statehood deal with the Palestinians and full Israeli withdrawal from territory captured in the 1967 Middle East war before ties can be normalized. — Agencies
