MUSCAT — US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo arrived in Oman on Thursday as part of his multi-leg Middle East tour following the announcement of a landmark peace deal on Aug. 13 between the United Arab Emirates and Israel brokered by the United States. The visiting US secretary of state met with Oman's Sultan Haitham Bin Tariq Al-Said and discussed with him the latest regional and international developments, especially with regard to US peace efforts in the Middle East. Pompeo thanked the Omani people, saying that they are so warm and generous in a tweet. Terming the US ties with Oman as strong and steadfast, he also thanked Oman's Sultan for hosting him. Giving details of his visit in a series of tweets, Pompeo said: "Met today with Omani Sultan Haitham bin Tarik Al Said on the importance of building regional peace, stability, and prosperity through a united Gulf Cooperation Council. Grateful for our strong security partnership and economic ties." Upon his arrival in Oman, the US top diplomat tweeted, saying: "Arrived in Oman and will meet with Omani Sultan Haitham bin Tarik Al Said. I look forward to discussing efforts to build unity among the Gulf Cooperation Council and build on the momentum to advance regional peace and prosperity."
