KUWAIT CITY — Kuwait on Thursday reported 622 coronavirus cases over the past 24 hours, taking the total number of confirmed infections in the country to 78,767, according to a statement from the country's health ministry carried by Kuwait News Agency. The ministry also announced two more deaths from COVID-19, bringing the total number of virus-related fatalities in the country to 509. There are currently 7,616 active cases in the country out of which 94 are critical and receiving necessary medical care in intensive care units, according to the ministry spokesman Dr. Abdullah Al-Sanad. Some 4,337 swab tests were conducted in the past 24 hours, out of a total of 577,588 so far, the spokesman added. He reiterated the strict need to abide by health precautions, urging nationals and expatriates alike that following social distancing rules is the only way to keep the virus at bay. Earlier in the day, the ministry said 871 people recovered from the virus in the last day, raising the total number of those to have overcome the disease to 70,642.
