JEDDAH — Qatar on Thursday announced 1,581 new coronavirus cases, taking the total number of infections in the country to 63,741, according to the country's Ministry of Public Health. The ministry said the new cases were detected after it carried out additional 4,649 COVID-19 tests. The ministry also said that 1,926 more patients have recovered, raising the total number of recoveries to 39,468 so far. With no death reported on Thursday, the country's virus-related fatalities stand at 45. There are 24,228 active cases still receiving treatment at medical facilities across the country. Over the last 24 hours the ministry also recorded 14 new cases being admitted to intensive care units, bringing the total number of positive cases in ICUs to 239. The ministry said that the country is still in the peak phase of the virus outbreak, which is seeing a rise in the number of infections recorded daily, and therefore it is necessary to adhere to, more than ever before, the preventive measures and social measures recommended. The ministry also stressed the importance for the elderly or those suffering from chronic diseases and their family members to follow strict measures to reduce the chances of infection.
