Minister of Culture Prince Badr Bin Abdullah Bin Farhan has appointed Dr. Stefano Carboni as CEO of the Saudi Museum Authority, which has been assigned to regulate and develop the museum sector in the Kingdom. Dr. Carboni, one of the specialists in the field of museums, holds a doctorate degree in Arabic and Islamic art from the School of Oriental and African Studies of the University of London in 1992. He had previously managed many museums and art galleries across the world and won prestigious awards in the field of heritage. He worked in the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York for 16 years from 1992 to 2008. The Museum Authority is among 11 new cultural bodies launched by the Ministry of Culture to manage the Saudi cultural sector in various fields following a Cabinet decision in this regard earlier this month. At the Museum Authority, Dr. Carboni will assume multiple tasks, including drawing up a strategy for the sector, granting licenses, encouraging financing and investment, adopting vocational training programs in addition to designing relevant educational programs and providing scholarships for the talented. The Authority will cooperate and coordinate with the relevant agencies and departments to support the protection of intellectual property rights in areas related to the museums sector. — SG
