Saad Al-Shamrani, one of Muhammad Al-Shamrani's uncles, was quoted by Okaz newspaper as saying that his actions do not reflect the "humanity and loyalty of his family" to the Kingdom's leadership. "The news was a like a thunderbolt for us, because all the members of the tribe who have served the state and are still serving it with all sincerity and loyalty, always stress the importance of renouncing extremist thought." He said that Muhammad Al-Shamrani's father is a retiree from the military corps. He drew attention to the fact that Muhammad Al-Shamrani was sent on scholarship to the US to specialize in developing airports equipment.
