JEDDAH — The wife of the Lebanese consul general, Zina Atallah, held a reception on the occasion of “Mothers' Day,” at the consul general's residence on Thursday evening. The reception honored three mothers who faced challenges in bringing up their children. In her speech, Atallah paid tributes to all mothers in general for their roles in bringing up their children and caring for them up till they become grown up men and women. “Today I'm very pleased to welcome all mothers here; I'm honored by your attendance. As a mother myself, I can say that responsibilities of mothers are great; mothers do great efforts during their whole life in bringing up their children,” Atallah said. “No words can describe a mother; mothers are symbol of love and sacrifice. They give us confidence and they are always there when we need them,” Atallah added. During the function, Fatima Kerideh, a Lebanese mother of eight; Suad Juffali, a well-known philanthropist who founded the Help Center for disabled children in 1985; and Hala Jundi, a Syrian mother who brought up her sons and daughters to be prominent engineers in Saudi Arabia, were honored. The Korean consul general, herself a mother of two girls, spoke about motherhood. One of her daughters has completed her study in law while the other is studying fine arts. According to her, it is difficult to play the role of a mother while married to a diplomat who moves every few years to a different country because the children have to adjust to and mix in a new community and learn new languages. The wife of the Turkish consul general, who is bringing up four children, said time management is the key. She always tried to be with her children, especially when they were young, at the same time successfully managing the social life as a diplomat's wife. The wife of the Jordanian consul general prepares her children for challenges of moving to different countries, making new friends, joining new schools and getting to know new languages and traditions. The residence of the Lebanese consul general was filled with mothers who found it a good opportunity to exchange their experiences and talk about their responsibilities on the “Mother's Day”.
